    Suds

    September 21, 2010-January 9, 2011

    The Cosmopolitan Cabaret
    1000 K Street (at 10th Street)

Written by Steve Gundersen, Bryan Scott and Melinda Gild.

    Directed by Glenn Casale.

“Loaded with good clean fun, bubbling energy and some of the ’60’s greatest pop hits, Suds is the delightful story of a young woman and her guardian angels who come to teach her about finding true love in, of all places, a laundromat.  Including over 50 favorite songs from the ’60s like “Where the Boys Are,” “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” “Respect,” “I Feel Good” and “Do You Want to Know a Secret.”

The four-person cast will include Melissa WolfKlain as Cindy, the sweet, gawky laundromat worker, recently dumped by her pen pal for someone with better penmanship.  Originally from the Bay Area, but now based in Los Angeles, WolfKlain toured in White Christmas and has starred as Polly in Crazy for You and Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie, both for Broadway by the Bay.  Eydie Alyson will play Dee Dee, a perky and optimistic guardian angel sent to help Cindy, and Nanci Zoppi will play her tougher and brassier counterpart, Marge.  Alyson appeared in New York as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors and toured in Les Misérables.  Zoppi has been seen in Sacramento in productions at the New Helvetia Theatre and B Street Theatre.  The male roles in the production will be filled by Michael Dotson, a favorite of Music Circus audiences for his more than 30 productions under the Tent.

The production will be directed by California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale and choreographed by Joann Lewis.  Casale has staged musicals under the Tent at Music Circus for 20 years, most recently 2010’s Spamalot and Funny Girl.  His staging of Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby was nominated for a Tony Award for best musical revival and received two Emmy Awards.  Casale directed productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Madrid, Moscow and most recently Milan.  The musical director will be Michael Paternostro who appeared this summer as Eddie Ryan in Funny Girl.
